They've got a great calculator for costs.

http://calculator.s3.amazonaws.com/calc5.html

The biggest cost for doing hosting this way at first is the 720 (24 hours x 30 days) hours of compute time. On a small instance it's $0.10 an hour, so $72 is really the minimum you can spend for full time hosting.

For a smallish site, you're looking at less than $20 for bandwidth, storage, etc.

I was paying about $110 for a dedicated server + FTP backup space. Now it'll be about $100 including some backups on S3.

> Cost-wise, with EC2, I’ll be spending about $10 less
> a month than I do now for a dedicated server.

Marc - Could you be a bit more specific? What's the minimum cost per month to use EBS/EC2, with little storage or bandwidth? Another blog says $72 a month - is this about right?

Thanks,

Douglas
